Inside bets

Roulette Bets Explained: Inside Bets

Of the three types of bets in roulette – inside, outside and called – inside bets are the most basic ones as they include betting on a single number. These are the high-risk high-reward type of bets, and you’ll need to have luck on your side to win on them.

Inside bets all have to do with placing chips on numbers and don’t include the bird’s eye view of betting on red/black or odd/even. With inside bets, you’re simply covering a number or more than one number.

Table of Inside Bets with Payouts

Mastering inside bets is an important skill that is often overlooked, and many players don’t even know how to place a double street bet to cover two consecutive lines of three numbers. Here is a quick guide for each inside bet:

Name Description Payout Chip placement
Straight/Single Bet on a single number 35 to 1 On the number
Split Bet on two vertically/horizontally adjacent numbers (e.g. 14-17 or 8-9) 17 to 1 On the edge between the two numbers
Street Bet on three consecutive numbers in a horizontal line (e.g. 7-8-9) 11 to 1 On the outer edge of the number at either end of the line
Corner/Square Bet on four numbers that meet at one corner (e.g. 10-11-13-14) 8 to 1 On the cross that divides the four numbers
Six Line/Double Street Bet on six consecutive numbers that form two horizontal lines (e.g. 31-32-33 / 34-35-36) 5 to 1 On the outer corner shared by the two leftmost or the two rightmost numbers
Trio A three-number bet that involves at least one zero: 0-1-2 (either layout); 0-2-3 (single-zero only); 00-2-3 (double-zero only) 11 to 1 On the corner shared by the three chosen numbers
First Four Bet on 0-1-2-3 (Single-zero layout only) 8 to 1 On the outer corner shared by 0-1 or 0-3
Basket Bet on 0-00-1-2-3 (Double-zero layout only) 8 to 1 On the outer corner shared by 0-1 or 00-3

Best Inside Bets to Play

The purpose of inside bets is to increase the chances of winning compared to the most basic inside bet, which is betting on a single number.

Splitting your stake between two numbers in a Split bet is a great way to double the chance of winning and make them at least tolerable, as with two numbers on a single-zero roulette wheel you have a 5.40% chance of winning, with an excellent payout of 17:1.

By taking things further and placing a bet on three numbers at once, the chances of winning increase to 8.10% with a payout of 11:1. Betting on four numbers has a 10.80% chance of winning and the payout is 8:1.

Finally, a popular bet that’s easy to make that is, in fact, our recommended inside bet is a Double Street. This is a quick way to cover six numbers. The payout is 5:1, but there’s a 16.22% chance of winning. You can place more than one Double Street, and with six of them, you’d cover the entire table except for zero.

Take in a mind that all inside bets have the same house edge, and no one’s better than the other when it comes to comparing the payout to the chance of winning.

 How to Play Inside Bets

Since all of these are high-risk bets that potentially bring a lot of profit, but often lose, they are not compatible with any betting strategy as these rely on having a much better chance of winning on a spin.

Most players use inside bets to add a random element to their usual two-sided bets and give themselves a chance to win 35:1, 17:1 or another nice amount while at the same time using the two-sided bets for security. You can also use inside bets for various strategies that cover a certain portion of the betting table, such as the Shaun Roulette Strategy.
